Meet the Team
We are proud to support Unravel and know that our efforts will have a profound impact on pediatric cancer research. Our children deserve more effective and less toxic treatments. More about our team is below.
Kathy is a devoted wife and mother who works full-time as a legal secretary. She enjoys fitness, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and travel. Her son, Drake, was diagnosed with a brain tumor called medulloblastoma when he was just 8 1/2 years old. Drake endured major brain surgery, cranio-spinal radiation, and seven rounds of chemotherapy. It was a long and very difficult road. After being cancer-free for more than two years, we were devastated to learn in June 2019 that Drake's tumor had returned.
After being launched into the world of pediatric cancer, Kathy saw not only how extremely awful it is, but also how common it is. Despite being the #1 disease killer of kids in the United States, pediatric cancer research receives LESS THAN 4% of all government cancer research funding. As a direct result of this lack of funding, treatments and research or pediatric cancer are decades behind. It is now Kathy's ongoing mission to spread awareness of the plight of childhood cancer, and to help raise money for research. For Drake, and for the 36 children who are diagnosed with cancer every single day.
Meredyth is a mostly stay-at-home mom, crafter, cake, avid Pinterest-er, and lover of true crime podcasts. Being on the Unravel the Night SF team has been awesome, as it combines her love for planning (everything!), crafting, and Pinterest-ing... all while making a difference where the need is so great.
Our 2018 event was absolutely magical and the biggest highlight of her year. If she had to choose just one favorite memory of the night, it would be hamming it up in the photo booth with her friends. Dancing all night was pretty awesome too!
It was after Drake's diagnosis that she first became aware of how severely underfunded pediatric cancer research is. The way that Unravel is able to fund innovation is the best way to make a difference, and she has dedicated herself to supporting this mission.
